Helping You to Diversify Your Music Curriculum and Teaching Practices
World Music Pedagogy encompasses the questions, curiosities, and concerns of contemporary educators who are teaching music with both musical and cultural aims in mind. We bring together multiple ways of experiencing music of the world’s people, with accent on musical skills and cultural knowledge. Grounded in principles of ethnomusicology, and including music of fieldwork of American and global cultures, we provide for the support Through listening that is attentive and engaging, the route of World Music Pedagogy encompasses knowing music for its cultural context and meaning, and developing skills that lead to possibilities for performing the music and creating something meaningful, “new” and yet connected to studied music. We provide "Learning Pathways” as support to teachers in elementary and secondary schools, and these curricular-instructional items bring an understanding to children and youth of music for its sonic and social meanings.
