Alisha Lola Jones is professor of Folklore and Ethnomusicology at Indiana Univeristy, and adjunct faculty in African American and African Diaspora Studies, and in high demand as a consultant in pedagogy and curriculum development. She is an expert in gospel music, musical masculinities, the music industry and global pop music; see her OUP book, Flaming? The Peculiar Theopolitics of Fire and Desire in Black Male Gospel Performance, and DrAlisha.com.

Frederick Lau is an ethnomusicologist, flutist, conductor, and chair of the Department of Music at the Chinese University of Hong Kong.  He has published worldwide on Chinese, Western, and Asian music and cultures and on issues related to music and identity, nationalization, modernization, politics, and musical hybridity, including OUP’s Music in China and co-editor of Locating East Asia in Western Art Music.

John-Carlos Perea is an  electric bassist, singer, cedar flutist, ethnomusicologist, and associate professor of American Indian Studies in the College of Ethnic Studies at San Francisco State University. He is author of Intertribal Native American Music in the United States and Music and Modernity Among First Peoples of North America, and with research interests in jazz and improvised music, and urban American Indian lived experiences and cultural productions.

Brenda M. Romero is an ethnomusicologist with specializations in the music of Mexico and New Mexican folk music and dance genres, with expertise also in composition and the pedagogies of world music theories. Her research has included the pantomimed Matachines music and dance of northern New Mexico and music cultures and practices in Mexico and Columbia.
